Best places to view the race

In the town and the ring road, there are marks and signs to LAILIAS, to TC’s, to Special Tests for every day.

Undoubtedly, in LAILIAS forest there are the most beautiful and spectacular places. Every day, there is at least one Special Test Enduro – Cross Country near there. A few meters before and after the TC or the Special Tests, there are a lot of nice paths in the forest.

Just follow ON FOOT every day’s marks!

There are a lot of other interesting points too, nearby Serres, ideal for photos and encouraging the competitors!

How to go there:

Α.

Day 1-2 On the country road from Serres to Prodromos Monastery (Ι.Μ. Προδρόμου), after the Ag. Nicolaos small church, the riders are coming on the tarmac road from your right thru a small steam. They are moving towards us! It’s a viewable (from high) and approachable place. (5,5km from the town)

Day 1-2 Day 3-4 A little bit before the riders reach the Marmaras (Rachovitsa) TC / ST, are coming down a slope beside the Special test. Behind this downhill, there is a difficult, viewable and continuously uphill for 800 meters with a lot of ruts. (9,8km + 800m walking before the TC. (Uphill again on days 3-4, without stopping to the TC/SP)

Day 1-2 On the country road from Serres to Vrontou Mountains (Όρη Βροντούς), at 17th km, the riders are coming out from a path on your right, moving parallel to the tarmac road for few hundreds meters, and then continue to the left. The best point to see them, is the path’s exit – last meters.

Day 1-2 On the country road from Serres to Metohi - Xirotopos (Μετόχι – Ξηρότοπος) (thru Stadium road), you can go to watch at the riders inside the Metohi’s Mega Stream at your left. After Kato Metohi, there is a narrow gravel road left to Vissani. At 2 km there is the stream. (total 10km). Riders are coming from your right.

Day 3-4 Day 5 On the country road from Serres to Prodromos Monastery (Ι.Μ. Προδρόμου), just 200 meters from the basic junction inside the town, beside the Ag. Giorgis Stream, you can see blue and green marking for race day 3-4, 5. Follow them on foot. Easy pass in the forest and thru the stream. The most water in the steam, the better for viewing! (1,5km)

Day 3-4 Day 5

In the same junction, just a few meters on your left, follow the gravel road from the left side of the river. Go in the Ag. Giorgis forest – stream and park there (400m). Follow the blue sings for 300m and then you can see a spectacular uphill on your right hand. There are a lot of interesting stony trails after this.

If you keep straight, following the green sings, you can walk deep in Ag. Giorgis stream which becomes narrow and difficult, beautiful and shadow with water for the next 6 km! The most beautiful places! (1,5km + 1-6km walking)

H.

Day 5 On the 12th km of the country road from Serres to Vrontou Mountains (Όρη Βροντούς), at the place called “Nea Helvetia”, the riders are coming up the tarmac road from the slope on your right. Then, they turn left up to a gravel road few meters below, just on a right U-turn. You can walk down the Banitsa Stream, one of the most difficult and mortal part of the 5th day’s route, following the green signs. It is 2-3km long. After this part, there is a difficult uphill full of stones, which is common with 1-2 day’s route. (12km + 1,5 – 4km walking)

I.

Day 5 On the country road from Serres to Lailias, at Orini village follow road signals to Ano Orini (17km). Under the village’s small cultural museum, there is a small green uphill road, full of U-Turns, coming from the slope across, thru a small stream.

Day 5 On the country road from Serres to Lailias, after Orini junction continue to Lailias. In 20th km, 300m after Aetopetra Hotel (on your right) the riders are coming on the tarmac from your right, crossing the street on the rocks on your left. Photos from the street!

A few meters later, near the hotel, there is a difficult downhill bluff path in the forest! Just walk downwards! (20km + 1km walking)

L, M.

Day 5 On the 10th km of the country road from Serres to Lailias, just before “Chrisopigi” Village at the place called “Ydragogio”, the riders are coming on the tarmac road from your left thru Mandela Stream. They follow the road parallel to us, and turn right 200m later on a gravel road to the next stream, called “Melissi”. The last part of Mandela stream (1-1,5km walking) and the first part of Melissi Stream (0,5-1km walking) are very spectacular!

Yo tambien estoy seguro de que aremos algo grande pero los finlandeses siempre estan ahi, y si las motos no les dan problemas y no sufren caidas va a ser muy dificil superarlos. Pero bueno despues de ellos creo que no hay nadie que nos supere aunque hay que tener cuidado con Italia, Francia,...

Los Seis Días de Enduro, en Grecia

La Selección Nacional de Enduro, preparada para los ISDE

El próximo lunes comenzarán los ISDE de Grecia y la selección española se ha preparado a conciencia para traerse por primera vez a casa el título más preciado: el de Trofeo. Encabezados por Iván Cervantes, el equipo nacional llega más fuerte que nunca y dispuesto a doblegar a los favoritos Italia y Finlandia. Además, en Junior y Club contamos también con potentes equipos dispuestos a emular las victorias del año pasado.

Después de la magistral actuación de los"Chicos de oro" en los ISDE del año pasado en Chile, donde se llevaron de calle las categorías Junior y Club, ahora ha llegado la hora de enfrentarse al reto más duro, ese que llevamos persiguiendo desde que se creó esta competición: la victoria en Trofeo.

Contamos con el equipo más fuerte de la historia del enduro español abanderado por Iván Cervantes y al que le secundan los rapidísimos y efectivos Cristóbal Guerrero, Oriol Mena, Xavi Galindo, Xacob Agra y Gerard Farrés. Únicamente hay que lamentar la ausencia de Víctor Guerrero que todavía está recuperándose de una lesión de muñeca. No podemos decir que partamos como favoritos ya que en la"parrilla de salida" se alinean escuadras tan fuertes como la finlandesa, liderada por Juha Salminen, la italiana, con Simone Albergoni, y la francesa, algo deslucida por la ausencia de Johnny Aubert, el ganador absoluto del año pasado, que se encuentra enemistado con su federación.

Si hacemos un balance de los últimos 14 años vemos que italianos y finlandeses se han repartido las victorias sin dar opción a sus rivales, a excepción de los ISDE de Francia de 2004 donde ganó el país anfitrión.

Todos nuestros pilotos conocen bien esta competición por lo que la novedad no va a ser una dificultad. Ahora sólo es cuestión de dar gas y esperar que nada falle durante los seis duros días de competición. El clima y el terreno, en principio, nos favorecen y las KTM, Yamaha y BMW que intentarán llevar al equipo a la gloria están listas para la acción.

El trazado ha sido dibujado en una gran superficie de 600.000 metros cuadrados en los que se alternan las partes técnicas con las rápidas, raíces, rocas, y donde los pilotos tendrán que enfrentarse a la famosa Montaña Lailas, una cumbre tan temida como emblemática de 1.600 metros de altitud. El Auto Moto Club Serres, ya experimentado en competiciones internacionales de enduro y supermotard, ha preparado todo con mimo para dejar bien alto el pabellón griego. De hecho, habrá 300"marshalls" y comisarios encargados de velar por la seguridad de los pilotos y el buen transcurso de la prueba en todo momento.

También en Junior…

Pero además del equipo estrella, el Trofeo, no podremos perder de vista a los Junior que, aunque no lo tendrán fácil, también sueñan con la victoria. Lorenzo Santolino, Lucas Puerta, Armand Monleón y Guillem Parés han sido los elegidos por el seleccionador nacional Josep Alonso para revalidar el título que logramos en La Serena, y que supondría el quinto trofeo Vaso para la selección. En la categoría Club, que fue novedad el pasado año, serán Marc Vives, Marc Solá y Jordi Figueras quienes se encargarán de defender los colores de nuestra bandera.

Pero hasta Grecia no sólo viajan estos trece bravos pilotos, la Selección Española de Enduro moviliza un total de 40 personas que trabajarán sin descanso para empujar a los nuestros hasta el triunfo. Cocineros, mochileros, encargados de los controles horarios, de los enlaces y de las pruebas especiales, un delegado de la RFME y fisioterapeuta componen este numeroso equipo, que cuando leas estas líneas ya se habrá instalado en el paddock griego.

Junto a ellos estarán otras formaciones de 33 países distintos, de las cuales 27 correrán en Trofeo y 16 en Junior; además habrá 4 equipos femeninos y 75 equipos Club que completan una lista de 454 corredores. Desgraciadamente el número limitado de inscritos ha obligado a la organización a no aceptar participaciones individuales y a exigir a las federaciones nacionales que limiten los Equipos Club a un máximo de cuatro por país.

El lunes día 1 de septiembre se da el pistoletazo de salida. Que gane el mejor…

Las cosas han empezado bien porque Cristóbal Guerrero ya va primero en E2 y segundo en la general. Iván Cervantes primero en E1
